dawn chorus celebration

The dawn chorus is a celebration. The birds have woken up to a new day, and for them it is as if it is the first day, nothing has gone before, everything is new and exciting. And we should wake up this way too. It is one of the beauties of the day and night cycle, sleeping at night and reawakening. We can put the past behind us and start the new day as a new life – everything unknown, exciting, fresh, unpredictable yes, but full of potential – and a celebration, an overflowing of joy. This is what the birds are telling us in their dawn chorus, every one of them singing its heart out for no particular reason, except as an overflowing of their joy, their joy of life.

We too have that joy within us. Look deep into your heart and find that place in you that wants to sing out in the morning, to sing with joy. It is the joy of existence itself, being sung through the birds. And this is one of the great beauties of life, the most amazing thing. Once we have seen through our mad ideas, once our busy mind has quietened itself, we are not left in some grey neutrality, but in a world that is rich, varied, lush, where life flourishes in its myriad forms. We too can celebrate this in our being, in our very way of being. Even if we do not sing with our voice as the birds do in their dawn chorus, our heart can be singing as we walk through the day, enjoying this great gift of life and the great beauty of existence. This is the reminder that the birds give us each morning as they awaken and sing out from their heart, in a celebration of life, in the dawn chorus.
